Donegal Presbyterian sought to provide accessibility to the existing structure and construct an addition for their growing congregation. The new sanctuary was designed to be nestled into the ground, partially below grade, overlooking the natural spring on the rural site. The modern vocabulary of the expansion was modest in scale and presence to compliment the historic sanctuary.
Wendy H. Tippetts, AIA; Senior Partner
Wendy is one of the two founding partners of TIPPETTS/WEAVER architects, and for over thirty years has led the design direction and culture of the firm. Wendy has always enjoyed the breadth of work in the architectural discipline and has encouraged work from small, highly detailed specialty projects to large, multi-building master planning projects.
Wendy works very hard to develop a strong working relationship with clients, listening carefully to their needs and desires; and striving to bring their architectural aspirations to life.
Wendy believes strongly that our architectural solutions should not only answer the immediate pragmatic needs of the project, but should produce spaces that satisfy and delight, for this generation and generations to come.
Wendy is a native of New England, but has traveled the country for schooling and work opportunities; graduating from Franklin & Marshall College with a Bachelor of Arts, in Art History and Studio Art and completing her Masters work in Architecture at the University of Oregon; followed by work experience in New York City, with the internationally recognized firm SITE Projects.
Wendy returned to Lancaster in 1985 and has been very active in the Central Pennsylvania community; serving on many non-profit boards, including the Susquehanna National Heritage Area, Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, New School of Lancaster, Demuth Foundation, Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County and the American Institute of Architects, Central Pennsylvania Chapter, where she served as President in 2014.
While Wendy is looking to have more control of her schedule, to allow for exploration of other arts and crafts related disciplines; she continues to be a driving force in the organization and direction of the firm. Wendy continues to lead projects, and serves as a special consultant for most of the projects in the office.
Gary E. Weaver, AIA; LEED AP; Senior Partner
Gary is one of the two founding partners of TIPPETTS/WEAVER architects; in 1987 while working with Wendy Tippetts, the two realized a common vision and consistent design ideology and formed the design partnership. Since that time, Gary has lead the firm’s design direction and ideology. For over thirty years they have grown slowly, carefully selecting projects and staff. Gary enjoys the broad range of project types and the differing scale of projects; where the office could be working on a small interior renovation, at the same time as a complex, multi-building infill project. In all cases, searching for design opportunities and striving to find unique, inspiring and unexpected results.
Gary has worked closely with owners, design teams and contractors in an inclusive and collaborative design approach; resulting in many award-winning projects; whether residential, commercial or institutional.
Gary strongly believes that architectural solutions must first solve the pragmatic and programmatic needs of a particular project, but should also surprise and delight. Design solutions should respect our historical context, but should also speak to the technologies and culture of our time and should result in a structure that feels as comfortable in its context twenty years from now, as it does the day it is completed.
A native of Lancaster County, Gary is a graduate from Pennsylvania State University. Gary continues to be active in the local community and has served on the Board of the Lancaster Family YMCA, Lancaster Housing Opportunity Partnership, the Lancaster Public Library, Thaddeus Steven Housing Corporation, Lancaster Inter-Municipal Committee: Uniform Construction Code Board of Appeals and the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County.
When not in the office, Gary is busy maintaining and renovating his family’s eighteenth century farmhouse; hiking the many trails of southern Lancaster County and cycling the less traveled roads through Lancaster County farmland.
Dana N. Clark, AIA; LEED AP, BD+C; Partner
Dana began his tenure with Tippetts/Weaver in 1998 and has evolved through many job responsibilities to his current role as Principal and Partner in the Firm. Dana has extensive experience in directing complex renovation projects from the strategic planning stage through design and construction. He has handled many Historic projects, including Restoration, Renovation and Adaptive Reuse; he has managed several projects with Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits. Some of his work includes Renovations to the Historic Molly Pitcher Hotel in Carlisle, Fahnestock House Apartments in Gettysburg, Newville Town Center and Renovations and Expansion of the Lancaster Airport Terminal.
Dana encourages open communication and a collaborative approach to design, to ensure the best outcome for every project. Dana oversees the coordination of the design team, directs and reviews the project design direction, reviews overall progress, maintains schedule and is responsible for bringing projects to completion on time and on budget.
A native of Lancaster County, Dana graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1994. Dana is a member of the Arts and Architecture Alumni Association, serves on the City of Lancaster Building Code Board of Appeals and the Warwick Township Zoning Hearing Board. Dana is a founding board member of The Society of Design and the past vice president of The Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County.
Dana also enjoys volunteering in the community as part of Warwick’s youth sport organizations, he has been a coach and Treasurer of the Warwick Travel Baseball Association for the past 10 years. Dana was also the past treasurer for the Warwick Mat Club and teaches professional outreach programs in area schools. A lifelong Lititz resident, Dana and his wife Stephanie are the caretaker of the family’s century farm. Dana’s personal and professional interests towards farmland preservation and rehabilitation of historic structures speak to his overall commitment to the preservation of the area’s local heritage.
